David Spangler, a spiritual teacher and mystic living in the Seattle, Washington area, has written about a form of elemental spirits he calls “techno-elementals”. According to David, these represent, in a sense, one expression of the ensouling presences that embody all forms.
This practice invites you to imagine that everything you encounter is an embodiment of the Sacred and that it adds to a positive quality of daily life to develop a habit of expressing gratitude to these objects and gadgets.
Also, with an awareness that everything you encounter also brings with it an ensouling spirit from the invisible realms, you have an opportunity to be in active relationship with the life that “lives, moves, and has its being” in everything you encounter.
For this practice, choose an object you live with that you encounter or engage all the time. For example, your computer, your smart phone, your favorite vase or coffee cup, the chair in which you sit while meditating, writing, or relaxing.
Bring to mind that this object is comprised of the same life as you, of the same consciousness in all the particles that comprise it. The consciousness of the object may not be the same as yours, but the life that lives in it is part of the same life that created you.
Now, focus your awareness in your heart and begin this practice by expressing gratitude to the object you have chosen. Take a moment to bring to mind all the ways in which this object serves you and contributes to your life.
Explore what it’s like to feel your relationship to this object, connecting with the fact that you and it spring from the same Source. Bring into your awareness that you and this object share this part of your life’s journey and its life’s journey.
Next, offer your blessings to the object. Wish it well. Honor that it, too, is Life, the Sacred, expressing Itself in form.
When you feel ready, close this practice by again focusing your awareness in your heart and sensing into the resonating tone of the connection you have made with this object.
