We have forgotten that the revelation found in the natural world and in the wider universe around us is the primary divine revelation. We need to regain the sense of wonder that comes from being deeply interconnected in a sacred way.
Interdependence, of course, is a fundamental law of nature. Not only higher forms of life but also many of the smallest insects are social beings who, without any religion, law or education, survive by mutual cooperation based on an innate recognition of their interconnectedness.

The breath of the flute player: does it belong to the flute?
We can speak without voice to the trees and the clouds and the waves of the sea. Without words they respond through the rustling of leaves and the moving of clouds and the murmuring of the sea.
All the principles of heaven and earth are living inside you. Life itself is truth, and this will never change. Everything in heaven and earth breathes. Breath is the thread that ties creation together.
Everything is blooming most recklessly. If it were voices instead of colors, there would be an unbelievable shrieking into the heart of the night.
There is hope if people all begin to awaken that spiritual part of themselves, that heartfelt knowledge that we are caretakers of this planet.
Green is the prime color of the world, and that from which its loveliness arises.
The Hopi Indians of Arizona believe that our daily rituals and prayers literally keep this world spinning on its axis. For me, feeding the seagulls is one of those everyday prayers.
The entire range of living matter on Earth from whales to viruses and from oaks to algae could be regarded as constituting a single living entity capable of maintaining the Earth’s atmosphere to suit it’s overall needs and endowed with faculties and powers far beyond those of its constituent parts.
Everybody needs beauty as well as bread, places to play in and pray in, where nature may heal and give strength to body and soul.
Rain! whose soft architectural hands have power to cut stones, and chisel to shapes of grandeur the very mountains.
Different gods dwell in different places, and different demons. Each place has it’s own dynamism, it’s own patterns of movement, and these patterns engage the senses and relate them in particular ways, installing particular moods and modes of awareness…each place has its own mind, its own personality, its own intelligence.
Never a day passes but that I do myself the honor to commune with some of nature’s varied forms.
